Real Estate and Everything Else

Area Expert

Real estate agents run as a service based business. If you look around at real estate agents a majority of them offer the same, if not similar services. Their experience and how they choose to market themselves can help that agent stand out among the other real estate clones suffering from same as syndrome. Same as syndrome? It is what I like to call the ailment a collection of people suffer from that think the same, do the same things, and offer the same services while all claiming to be different.

I’ll never call out specific agents or brokerages by name on my blog. That isn’t cool. I however have no problem talking about how they choose to market themselves, gimmicks they employee, or strategies they use for lead generation.

One of the marketing tactics agents will use is claiming to be the “area expert”. For greater emphasis imagine those are air quotes and not actual quotation marks. I’ll give you a gif to help better illustrate the ridiculousness.

The issue I have about claiming to be the area expert is this, it means absolutely nothing. When an agent is using that as a marketing tool, a way to generate business, they are using the title of area expert to build trust with the potential client.  That trust is built upon a imaginary title the agent gave themselves. Agents know that the general public isn’t immersed in real estate, it is just some activity they do every 7-10 years. There are some real estate agents that will use that naiveté to their advantage when working with a potential client and as a way to appear more skilled than a competing agent. As of the publishing of this post there is no governing body that I know of that gives out the “area expert” designation. So if you come across an agent that is marketing themselves in that way just know……
