Real Estate and Everything Else

When are you going to choose the RIGHT agent…..blah, blah, blah

The following Facebook post was recently brought to my attention. I don’t have the whole post, what I do have is very telling about the thoughts people have about the tactics used by real estate agents.

It reads:

Attention local realtors! I just wanted to reach out and to touch base to offer an opinion from a customer perspective! We recently had our Verrado home on the market and for personal reasons decided to remove the listing. The days after removing our listing have been stressful to say the least! We have received daily telephone calls on both my husband’s and my cell phone, our landline, texts, emails, letters in the mail and even realtors visiting our front door!! This is harassment and terrible business practice. These realtors are worse than car salesmen. I fell like we’re being attacked by vultures. I can’t believe what a rude and disrespectful practice this is. I have two little ones under the age of 3 and this constant disruption has woke my children from naps on numerous occasions due to constant doorbell and phone ringing. I’m not looking for you to defend your business…..

Wow! Just, wow. I wish I could see the rest of it. I bet the comment section is gold. No doubt someone will have posted that picture of Michael Jackson eating popcorn. I’m sure you know the one I’m talking about.

I don’t know about you but if someone comes to my door it better be someone I know, UPS dropping off an Amazon package, or Jimmy Johns bringing me lunch. I for sure am not signing my soul away to a solar company, purchasing pest control, buying educational books for my kids, or calling you back for any number of services after you leave me a business card crammed in my door.

As you can tell I agree with this person and I’m a real estate agent! (Although author, marketer, entrepreneur,  are the titles I like to use now.) I know there are some real estate agents out there that don’t get their business from door knocking, cold calling, annoying, pestering, and harassing. I’ll be honest with you I think those agents are in the minority.  Most of the brokers, trainers, real estate coaches and gurus make their money encouraging agents to do just what is described in the post above.

There are times that I am truly disappointed with how some people choose to generate business within my industry. I guarantee, and I’m not big on guarantees, that someone will be disappointed in this post. I only hope that I am able to help the general public by pointing out the tactics that give my industry a negative reputation and how to avoid fundamental mistakes because of that reputation. I think the author of the Facebook post sums it up the best.

This is harassment and terrible business practice. These realtors are worse than car salesmen. I fell like we’re being attacked by vultures. I can’t believe what a rude and disrespectful practice this is.
