Why I Never Want to be “Realtor of the Year”
For kicks and giggles I typed in the word Realtor into a Google news search to see what was being said about the profession that I have chosen to be a part of. One of things that came was the 2016 awards. Did you know that Realtors like to give each other awards? Think Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys but with less famous people. My brokerage has an awards program with breakfast every year. I’m going to be honest that I go, not because I expect to win an award but because they feed us bacon. If you have read my blog or know me you probably know I like bacon. I don’t get weird about though.
When I saw article after article it made me want to share with you something that I have been thinking about recently. I don’t want to be awarded Realtor of the Year or anything like it. I don’t want to be considered. I understand that awards are important to some people, I like awards too. For me the best award is knowing that my clients are happy with the service that I provided. It is a referral or someone that uses me again when it comes time to move. If someone in my office wants to give me an award it could be for Best Beard or Best White Board Creator I’m fine with that.
So I’ll keep going to our annual awards banquet, schedule willing. I’ll keep eating that bacon that I help pay for through my commission split. If by chance I ever win an award I’ll go up and accept it… well that might be the one time I don’t go to the banquet. I hate standing in front of people.
