Pocket Dump

Almost every morning, regardless of where I am or what I’m doing, I leave the house with the same items in my pockets. Anytime I reach into my pocket to pull out one of these items I expect it to be there waiting to be put to use. My everyday carry or EDC. They never let me down. Unless I let myself down by not remembering them.

You know that feeling.

Naked.

I would never walk or drive around naked.

I would never go to the movies naked.

I would never go to my office and sit at my desk naked

However, when I forget to put in my one of my EDC items I get the feeling that I’m not wearing my pants.

I hate that feeling.

Unless it is hairy and naked. That is worse than just naked. Trust me.

That feeling has made we turn around halfway to my office to pick up my pocket notebook. Because I’m not going to use just any pocket notebook and it definitely won’t be spiral bound Dollar Store special. The spirals get all bent and smashed, especially if you keep them in your back pocket. I hate that! And those little hangy tabs of paper that happen because of the low quality of paper they use. Seriously?! Plus this notebook is the right size to fit that little pocket calendar you see poking out the side of the notebook.

I can’t forget my keys. Since they open doors and make my car work. All really important things! Also, that little knife you see. I use it almost every day. Thanks, Tavia! There is a reason I have it attached to my keys. So I don’t forget it. I’d be lost without my keys or my knife.

My Pilot G2 .5mm. It has to be the .5mm. I mean I can get by with a .7mm if I HAVE to. It for sure can’t be the 1mm. I’m not writing with a crayon. I have tried various pens over the years but I always fall back on the trusty Pilot G2 .5mm. They are easy to replace. I can buy them in bulk and I don’t have a small panic attack if I lose one of them. Like I said I have tried other, fancier pens, but misplacing a $40 aluminum pen can make you question your sanity. Like why the hell did I spend $40 on a pen only to lose it?! I found it don’t worry. It now sits in my drawer. Some good that pen is doing.

No longer do I sit on a 2-inch tower of a wallet. In fact, I don’t sit on it at all. It is small enough to put in my front pocket. A few years ago I supported a Kickstarter campaign for this really cool minimalist wallet. I thinned down what I carry in my wallet and haven’t looked back. It can only hold so much. No more frequent shopper cards. I can only carry so many receipts before I have to put them in an envelope. I love it. If you want the link I can send it to you. The price has gone up but they are so with it.

It’s amazing how far phone technology has come. Now one piece of technology can replace 5 others. Phone, camera, video camera, computer, media player. No way I would be able to put all those items in my pocket. Even if I were wearing cargo shorts. I’m a dad and married that means I’m allowed to wear cargo shorts without being judged by the fashion police.

I can’t forget my headphones to plugin. But what am I listening to? That depends. Music or podcasts mostly but here is a secret. Sometimes I’ll wear headphones while I’m in public but I won’t be listening to music or podcasts. I’ll listen to what other people are saying. People talk about all kinds of things when you don’t think they are listening.😉

So what items do you have to have when you leave the house? What keeps you from feeling naked?
