Strength in Numbers
In the past, I have been very hesitant to give money to a charity. I mean who really knows where their money is going? And even if I did send some money what good is $25, $50 or even $100 even going to do. Maybe buy post-it notes for the office for a few people? Staples? Maybe some fold up chairs. Surely nothing of impact can come from such a single small donation.
I know I can’t be the only one that thinks like this.
Recently I became part of a group of people that come together to make an impact for 501(c)(3) charities. One of many groups actually.
Impact Club has chapters around the country and New Zealand that meet every quarter for the purpose of helping a charity.
Charities are nominated every quarter and from those nominations, three are chosen to compete in what could be best described as a Ted Talk winner take all fight to the death. Every member of Impact Club pledges to donate $100 each quarter to the winning charity of that given event. Since there currently isn’t a local Impact Club chapter, I am part of the Virtual Impact Club.
As Tavia got our kids ready for bed I was stoked to be given the chance to take part in my first Virtual Impact Club meeting.
Three charities entered, three charities presented their story, and one charity will receive over $8,000 once everything has been tallied.
It feels great to know that my $100 and that of over 80 others is going to make a difference. That isn’t all.
Over the last three days, Impact Club has had three quarterly meetings across the country. Over $45,000 has been pledged in total to three charities.
In total since Impact Club has been started over $700,000 has been donated by Impact Club members.
I no longer feel my small donation gets lost in the mix. Unnoticed.
I know now I’m making an Impact.
