I made that fire hydrant my *beep* !

The last few weeks I have been running 2-3 a week and I have enjoyed getting back into the habit. But it takes longer than that to make a habit. Some say it only takes 30 days. Something tells me it takes longer. I don’t remember what the book The Power of Habit says. They talk about that 30-day timeframe a few times.

While I’m making running a habit again and working toward running the 2019 Utah Valley Marathon I have already had a few small wins.

Although there is a goal of waking up at 5:30 in the morning it has happened 5 times over the last month. While I could kick myself and get down on myself for not being the author of my life and making Seth get up and out the door I won’t. I got out of bed those 5 times well before 6:00am!

Even though it is a struggle to wake up early I’ll tell you a secret, my day tends to go better when I wake up early and run.

I know, it’s a shocker to myself as well.

The coolest thing happened again today on my run. I say again because it also happened last week. I was able to complete my 1.3ish mile run with only walking during my warmup and my cool down.

I didn’t want to. It wasn’t long into today’s run that I wanted to walk. My legs felt like they were on fire. But I pushed through. Towards the end of my run, I started to use a motivation tool that I have used in the past. I would pick an object in front of me and say…

I’m going to make that rock my🤬.
I’m going to make the stick my 🤬.
I’m going to make that patch of weeds my 🤬.
I’m going to make that street corner my 🤬.
I’m going to make that house my 🤬.
I’m going to make that car my 🤬.

Finally

I’m going to make my that fire hydrant my 🤬.

Why the fire hydrant? Because it was further than what I ran last week when I had my good run.

I’m slowly working towards being able towards completing three miles only walking during the warmup and cool down. That is my next running goal. It’ll be weeks maybe months before that happens but I’m getting there.

I will make three miles my 🤬.
