It’s not about the exercise
“It’s not about the exercise”
Many of you will know that I graduated from Utah Valley University (UVU) with a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science.
During my course of study, I took chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, kinesiology, and others. I just don’t remember them all.
A lot of classes centered around exercise. A lot. When I graduated with my degree I thought that exercise was the cure for everything. Disease. Depression. The key to weight loss. My baldness. Sometimes all of them at the same time. It was the magic pill that everyone was looking for.
Just exercise!
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise.
I don’t remember what the outline of my degree looked like back then and I believe a few things have changed shine then. Maybe I picked the wrong classes, I don’t know. While I was getting my degree I never once took a nutrition class.
I mean nutrition was talked about in multiple classes but I never once had a full semester dedicated to it.
UVU offered nutrition classes. I just didn’t end up taking one.
Maybe if I had taken a few I would have left with a more rounded wellness approach. Because I’ll tell you this and it is only from my personal experience with my weight…
It is hard to out exercise a crappy diet.
I’m not going to get into what nutrition path you should be taking. How you should eat. If Paleo is a good option or maybe being a vegan. If calories in calories out holds the key. All that is personal. You need to figure it out for you.
I have found that the best way to control my weight isn’t endless amounts of cardio. It isn’t snorting protein powder and flipping tires.
The best way to lose the weight is controlling what you shove in your pie hole. Maybe you should cut down on the pie. In my case Dr. Pepper, mindless snacking I do when I get bored, and overeating. What you put in your mouth and how often is what is going to help or hinder you in your weight loss journey.
It’s not the exercise. It’s never been the exercise.
If you want to talk about looking good while you’re naked.
Then it’s about the exercise.
