Park Review: Hunter Park, American Fork, UT
This will be the first of many park reviews that I will be posting. Why park reviews? Because parks are AWESOME! It also allows me to have fun with my kids and give you some content that isn’t overly sarcastic. That is a called a twofer in case you didn’t know.
Hunter Park was chosen first because I probably have the most experience with it. After we get past parks #2 and #3 we will be in new relatively new territory. American Fork City has 28 parks listed on it’s website. Surprised? Yeah, me too. I had no idea. Other than the normal 3 that I go to I have maybe been to a handful of the other ones. I guess you really do stick to what you know.
Hunter Park is located at 610 W 1120 N in American Fork. The link will take you the the city’s map. You can just use any GPS app you like depending on what kind of Fanboy you happen to be. Apple for the win.
This park has two different play areas both with a wood chip ground cover separated with a sidewalk. My kids especially love the ladder that looks like a fish. I agree, it’s kinda baller. The only thing really missing equipment wise are swings and/or a teeter totter. The play area is not shaded during the summer months so the equipment can get very HOT! That is probably the main reason why they posted a sign. So be smart and take your kids when it isn’t the hottest part of the day. It could be a painful experience. The equipment can be wet, especially the slides, if the sprinklers have just come on or it has recently rained. There are other amenities such as picnic tables (some with shade depending on the time of day), a trash can, benches, doggie doodie bags, a sizable parking lot, and lots of open space. There is a decent sized hill that people will use for sledding when there is snow. As of July, 13 2016 there are no toilets or pota potties on site so make sure everyone takes care of their business before you get to the park.
The mountain views as well as the ability to see Utah Lake make this park a gem. Plus with the popularity of Pokemon Go it also happens to be the home of two Pokestops. This is a great year round park. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
